Default What was your first stand alone tuner?

My very first tuner that was a seperate component was a Dynaco FM2 mono tuner. It was a tube tuner, about as attractive as the ugly duckling, but surprisingly it sounded good even though it was mono. I used a typical Radio Shack "Y" adapter to feed the output to the stereo Aux inputs on a Dynaco PAS3x preamp that drove two McIntosh MC30 mono amps. That was in 1968.

When I was 15 years old I very briefly owned a McIntosh MR77, which I could not afford, so I took it back and instead brought home a Marantz model 105B. That was in 1973. It fed a Dynaco PAT4 preamp and Stereo 80 amp.

I always missed the MR77, and in 2003 I acquired another to add to my Tuner collection.

My first tuner is a Denon TU-800, purchased in 1989. i still have it, though it's no longer connected, as I've replaced it recently with a Magnum Dynalab MD 90. The MD has no AM, and I actually have considered reconnecting the Denon for AM, though I listen only occasionally.

Pete,
Thanks for this nice story.
My MR77 has been also my first real standalone tuner cause I only had receivers until this one. It has a magical sound. I will never sell it.
Like it, I was born in 1972 ! But it seems in better shape than me !

Pete.......It took you 30 years to reacquire the MR77, but that tuner is worth the perseverance.
