I have been looking out for a suitable amp for my setup and have considered ARC ref amplifiers. Like most folks living in the city space is luxury I don't have so it has to be stereo and has adequate headroom to drive a 4 ohm load at 85db. Also I am not a big fan to have fans in any amplifier - no pun intended. I have read lot about the ARC Ref '75' and for its size and quality it's is a great amp but just need a little more juice IMO - http://www.stereophile.com/content/a...r-measurements

If ARC is listening give us a KT150 stereo amplifier with an output of 110w in ref 75 cosmetic and quality.

PS - Don't let me wait too long.

Thank you.

Any experience with KT150's substituting for KT120's in anything?

Carl of Nola Speakers was using KT150s in his Ref 75 at The Show in Newport. He had just installed them a few days earlier and said he greatly preferred them to the KT120. I bought a set yesterday and put them into my Ref 75. They make a great amplifier even greater. Better everything.

bvenezia - welcome to AA! Tell us more about this swap. It just works? You just plop them in, rebias, and you are done? What is better? I believe you are the very first person to do this here.

I also saw the Ref75 and KT150s in the Nola room and noticed how much taller they are than the KT120s. Let us know if it causes a problem with clearance when the top cover is installed.

The cover will just barely fit over the KT150s. Carl was using his amp without a cover. I greatly prefer the sound of the new tubes. Easy to install and yes, just reset the bias. The soundstage is even better with them as is the detail and resolution. It isn't subtle.

Tubes are in.

No "initial" issues. Bias is dead on out of the box.

As to SQ will have to get back. But so far all works!
