Sennheiser HD800S Questions/Suggestions
Just a couple quick questions on the HD800S...
Anyone know why Sennheiser suggests hanging up the cable after use the first few days, afterwards loose coiling for storage is fine? Does anyone store the headphones in the really nice storage box that is included, or do you simply hang them on a stand? After first night listening to them, so far I am very impressed... |

Storage on a stand here, just to protect the ear cups. Never thought about it very much. Mine are in my bedroom and the wife likes the neatness that the stand offers.

I use these Sennheiser headphone holders and hang them from the side of my rack. Probably not the prettiest arrangement, but it keeps them out of the way but still easily accessible without having to have big boxes lying around.

Nice 'phones, Randy!
My Sennheisers hang from a bracket, much like how Tony has his set up, at the end of my Salamander rack. As far as the cable coiling and uncoiling I'm wondering if Sennheiser ascribes to the theory that the copper molecular matrix needs to line up or flatten out for best transference of electrons or something along that line. I remember reading something about it when I was searching for a bi-wire pair of speaker cables but, frankly, most of what I read zipped right over my head. Did you get a balanced cable for these cans?

I have the same holder and I love it. Sadly, I think it has been long discontinued.

The HD800S come with their balanced cable... 4-pin XLR was a critical thing to me so no matter what I choose the cable would have to be added. Sennheiser made it easy by including it in the box ...
Sennheiser only suggests this for the "first few days" and then coiling is fine. I think they want to make sure any shipping kinks or bends are straightened out. The cable looks pretty straight to me .... Last edited by Randy Myers; 09-02-2016 at 12:55 PM. |

Nice... I have a little stand that I have been using for my KEF M500. It is cheap but it looks nice and the Sennheiser rests on it just fine, so I ordered another one. I will have them sitting side by side on top of the rack...

Another question, or concern I have. The cone being exposed, I have noticed a couple times I accidentally touch the silver cone. I quickly pull my finger back when I realize, but wondering if anyone else has had this concern? Do you accidentally touch the silver cone sometimes? Is there a potential that this could be a problem?

When I first got mine I accidentally tapped that soft cone material a couple of times. If it was an issue I'm sure there would be many reports. I think you just get used to handling them appropriately in a short amount of time. They should be fine.
