This one is smaller and the only one I have with a pottery base.

Considering the age of all these lamps (predating my father if he was still alive...albeit not by much) I marvel at the unscathed condition of the glass in all these lamps, not to mention the condition of a 'pottery' base.

The pics of this one don't really do justice to the glass in this one, especially the left pane in the last pic.

Dan,
Just now, looking back at your lamp, I realize, I think, the scale in the photo and I would have probably thought of this lamp instead of the previous one.

This is the only 'almost' antique floor lamp I have (not 100 yrs old yet- same as some of the table lamps)
I think I mentioned 7 other floor lamps that look old.(probably made in 'Cheena' ? )
This one has a heavy base of iron & spelter & onyx.

That reminds me, those 7 lamps have glass on top of the bases that look like alabaster (matching the look of the shades on top) and the base ones can be lit up.

Here is one more for now. This is the other pierced-brass lamp I have.
Unlike the other one I posted yesterday (post#22), this one is large. Also the only lamp I have that was originally oil and someone converted it to that modern 'lectricity stuff. I see it's circa 1895-1910 making it probably one of the older lamps I have.
Unlike the pics of the little one in post #22, the light coming through the amber mica-backed piercings shows up well and realistically here. I'm a-gonna post all the pics of this one.

Uh-Oh I "...uploaded the maximum of 10 files" I'm bad.

I want to post the last pic. It's a good pic of what large pieces of amber mica look like. See following post.

.

Just thought of somethig. You'll notice that little light passes through the pierced shade, but plenty is projected downward. I put the only 75 watt bulb I had in it to get sufficient light from the shade (it looks like these pics from the seller) while balancing the light output with the other "regular type" lamps on the same dimmer. Also, doing that made too much light shining downward so I used a small piece of Al foil to block most of it.

Another thought: I'm posting so much here that anyone really interested in it might never see it from the title. I probably should have started a thread called something like: "The Way I think Everyone Should Illuminate Their Listening Room.

OOh OOh: And another thought-I'm full of 'em today

Maybe I could add to the title ... see if there is any problem w/that...

I did it... Waiting to see if lightning striketh me

Dang - it doesn't really change the original title on The McIntosh Forum page, just the heading under my avatar on the initial post.

John.......You are quite a collector of eclectic lamps. Each one is very unique.

Isn't it just a little ironic that you are such a lamp collector but don't like to look at two little blue meters?

I would say yes. In all seriousness it probably is a bit of heresy. And I say this because I had the same thought when I had a C50 on loan. And was surprised that since it seems that a large draw for McIntosh users are the meters, that the meters didn't do all that much for me. In fact, at times they were a bit distracting. I think that I might have appreciated them more on an amp.

And I thought, similar to you, that most likely my thoughts could be considered heresy. Although I feel comfortable saying that because I'm sure that none of the wonderful members of this forum will put a "contract" out on us for expressing those thoughts.

It says way off topic because it was to be at the end of my, just completed, response to the "McIntosh C1100...Do I need a contingency plan?" by JWJW.

I imagine this is McIntosh heresy, but I rarely turn on the meter lights in the 3 pieces that have them, even though this is the first generation of Mc equipment, I believe, that one can control them all via remote control. This was also unexpected. In my decades of wanting, but not having McIntosh gear, my head, like that of most fans, I suppose, was filled with visions of Blue Meters (and sugar plums? ) It turns out that, with the rack right next to the speakers the meters are soooo bright that I don't want them on when listening to music at night, not to mention when watching a movie. I mostly listen at night, but during the day it doesn't occur to me to turn them on, probably because I've had them for, I'd guess 6 years, & I'd be surprised if the meter lights have 6 hours on them. Actually, I'm sure they don't. I've turned them on and off many times, almost always to read the MC452 VU meters. Other times just to show people "what McIntosh is known for".

Maybe a little. It would be different if a dozen of them were spread all over the room and dimmable.

This is a small lamp that sits on an end-table next to me when at the computer. Note the black & white catalog page at the end that shows this shade on a different base. This lamp originally cost $18.35, back when a dollar or even a penney was worth something !
