Be careful with the custom mounting of the Auditor M's as they perform best with their supplied stands. Positioning should also be 24"-36" away from walls for best sonics. The Auditor Elipsa's, as mentioned, have similar sound and can be wall mounted.

Question

I’ll post another thread, but since this one has my HT intentions with SF, I have a specific Sub-W question:
I don’t want to be an iconoclast, but Has anyone used a recent-model SUNFIRE Sub with the Auditor M’s? I spent a lot of time reviewing the AA threads and only found one brief reference to Sunfire. I do note that JL’s and REL are justifiably popular and read almost all the posts.

The only reason I ask is because in both room systems, placement & available space is really at a premium and Sunfire still makes the smallest enclosures, which will be very helpful.( has good connectivity, crossover slope controls, w. mike, etc.)

The only Sunfire I considered, before looking at the above respected brands, was their 12” TS EQ Solitaire 12, TS-EQS 12. Thought it might limit mudiness if only the Single driver without a passive radiator was selected to preserve any musicality and not just produce HT bass.
May consider two. Would make an effort to control wandering.

Comments or private message from anyone who’s either used this Sunfire model, or has given one a good audition recently would be appreciated.Thx.

Twenty some years ago, I listened to a small pair of stand-mounted speakers at a local hifi store. I was not familiar with the manufacturer or model. But compared with the other speakers in the demo room, these little speakers were absolutely wonderful. I said to myself "one day" and never forgot the SF Concertino's. "One day" has finally arrived.

Like Gofast, I also have a small media area for a 5.1 system. While researching components and speakers for the the new entertainment unit, I had a chance to audition a number of bookshelf size speakers. Once again, the SF speakers were standouts, but this time it was the Cremona Auditor M's and Center speakers. Just for the fun of it, the salesman demo'd a pair of Cremona M's in the adjoining demo room. The 20 year old thrill was back. The end result is a 2 year old pair Cremona M's in perfect condition have a new home in my living room.

Which brings me back to the 5.1 system. My goal is to do the best job I can in the space available. A few questions...

1) The front and center speakers will have to be shelf mounted. I understand that stand mounting is best but how bad will shelf mounting be?

2) Can anyone recommend ceiling mounted speakers for the side rears that will be compatible with the SF speakers?

3) The A/V receiver and/or separate stereo amp that will power the living room Cremona M's is about 50' away in the small media area. Can anyone recommend an in-wall speaker cable for this application?

Thanks for your input.

I believe you would be wasting your money if you mount Auditors on a shelf. They need room to breathe. Look at the Auditor Elipsa's for shelf mounting. Ask your dealer for a home demo and see what works best for your setup.

What is the issue with mounting the Auditor's on the top of the base portion of the entertainment unit? The area is fairly open, being 96" wide x 30" high and 24" deep, with a 46" flat screen TV between them. The SF speakers are fairly heavy and stiff. With a speaker dimension from any surface, except the top, I would not expect an resonances or coupling with the entertainment unit. Your thoughts?

The problem is sound reflecting and resonanting from behind the speakers. Auditors need about 2-3 feet and sometimes more space from neighboring walls to perform best. They are 14.4" deep and placed on your entertainment center of 24" only leaves about 10" space to the wall. You will not be getting the best sound the speakers are capable of producing. But will they sound OK......probably, but so much more effects the sound, such as room size, speaker placment, components, interconnects, cables, power cords, etc. The Auditors are not made for shelf placement. The SF Cremona Auditor Eilpsa are though Sumiko Audio : Sonus faber

Thanks for the response. Would you have any suggestions for in-wall speaker cables and ceiling mounted side speakers?

Thanks,

You can't go wrong with any of Kimber Kable products Kimber Kable - KWIK 12

I can't recommend any ceiling mounting speakers but the Cremona Auditor Elipsa's come with a wall bracket for wall mounting.
You can also use a SF Wall Domus http://www.sumikoaudio.net/sonus/bro..._Bro_12_04.pdf for wall mounting which can be found on the used market.
