Farewell, Sir Christopher Frank Carandini Lee. Actor, singer, narrator, war veteran and icon. He was Saruman, a Sith Lord, a Bond villain, Sherlock Holmes, Sherlock Holmes' brother and Sir Henry Baskerville, the Mummy, the Frankenstein monster, and, much to his chagrin, he was and forever shall be, of course, Dracula. He also appeared in another 250+ films. Possibly more. In his late 80's and early 90's, he was singing opera in various heavy metal bands, including a duet with Rhapsody's Fabio Lione (let's see if all those emo cry babies can pull THAT off in their 90's!). He spoke at least 8 languages and only married once. He was a descendant of Charlemagne. He was the step-cousin of Ian Fleming, author and creator of James Bond, and a distant relative of Robert E. Lee and the astronomer John Lee. He met J. R. R. Tolkien by accident. He was old-fashioned in the best possible way, a true professional that worked with A-list and Z-list directors and had good things to say about both. I could go on... but if you loved the man like I do you already know all of this.

One thing is for sure: we will never see the likes of him again. I never met him (even though it was one of my life's ambitions and dreams), yet I always considered him my friend, simply because I do not remember a point in my life where he was not there, accompanying me with his films. I grew up with him in the background, first by accident, then most certainly by choice. Is it stupid of me to cry a little bit today? I don't think so. The world of cinema has not been the same for a while and now that dreaded day I knew was eventually coming is finally here.

Sir Christopher Lee was the last true legend in the business. The last of the Giants. Farewell, Sir Christopher Frank Carandini Lee. You are now, even more than before, truly immortal.
