Just got back from Peru, which was awesome. Going to Munich in May (with a work stopover in Brussels). Then, it’s tarpon fishing in Boca!!

Also “Siete Portes” in Barceloneta section, very good.

Thank you. Was just going to ask krustycat if he had any suggestions (which he has - thank you). Botafumeiro is about a 30min walk from our hotel, so is very doable. Menton is too far east. We are doing Barcelona, Carcassonne, Montpellier, Avignon, Lyon & Paris this trip. 3-4 days in each, excepting Paris.

Can't get their website to open, but the one pic of the dishes looks great. Especially like the 'squid rings'.

I believe the chef who owns the legendary Mirazur (my fellow Argie, Mauro Colagreco) also has opened one in Paris!

Also, just 1-2 blocks from Siete Portes, if you don't mind eating while standing up, and don't mind rude waiters, but want to try typical and local food, you must eat "Choripan", "Butifarra", anything else you like and drink "Cavas" which is sparkling wine. At a dirty and local but amazing place called: Can Paixano (La Xampayeria). Trust me, this place is a must.

We are taking a transatlantic cruise from Tampa to Barcelona and then spending 3-wks in the south of France. We had planned to travel mostly by train, but the rolling strike convinced us to rent a car. Hopefully, we can get to Narbonne on a strike day to pick up our car. May have to take a bus, unless they are also on strike. Spending a couple of extra days in Barcelona would not be a bad thing, but hate to miss our days in Carcassonne.

There should be great drives along the way, so try to rent a nice car and enjoy the ride as well.

Indeed. Half the trip for me is driving around France. We really enjoy taking the smaller roads thru the towns so we can have lunch in their restaurants and sample the "real" local food and wine. Sometimes it's a bust, taste-wise, but good more often than not and always entertaining.

We spent 3-days in Lima in August and had a great time. The visit to Pachacamac was amazing.

Surely you went to Gaston Acurio's restaurant in San Isidro? Top, top shelf indeed.

Actually, we prefer to sample the local cuisine as opposed to the 'fancy' restaurants. We are more interested in local foods done well. Our experience is the "noted" restaurants these days are less and less about local cuisine and more and more about foamy green stuff frothed up on air-weight crackers and the like. We find the more we spend the more disappointed we can be. Eating like we are on a television cooking show doesn't do much for us. Looking forward to the tapas in Barcelona.
