I did just make the two most popular threads; what are you spinning & what are you listening to, Sticky. Now at least they will always be on top.

My point is that Music makes our interest in equipment, and the equipment itself, possible and I wish it weren't hidden so far down in our beloved forum.

There are stories (many have heard them) of the too-far-gone audiophile with a very expensive rig and only a handful of recordings. I dare say no one like that is on this forum. I have been focusing on equipment of late because I've been in one of those zones where I make a flurry of changes, and as that dies down (which is happening now) it goes back to what I play on that system. My interest in equipment for its own sake is quite limited; I like to think my enjoyment of music is enhanced by better equipment, but doesn't depend upon it, and it's too easy to start listening to the sound, not the music, if my head's not right. The inexpensive table radio I listened to as a child did it for me, and it was great. Before I was aware of high-end equipment or the term "audiophile," I simply listened to music. But it's also true that the better my system got, the broader my musical tastes got.
I'm about to begin having people over (non-audiophiles) who are music nuts just as I am, and who have no system or one that's not as high on the ladder as mine (which, in turn, isn't as high on the ladder as most here). Other than how cool the lights and meters on the 501s look, perhaps, equipment won't be discussed. It'll be all about the music and the concert DVDs I/we play. So while the equipment is important, I hope it never becomes an end in itself. Equipment in service of the music is the proper perspective for me, which means, I guess, that I think music is more important than equipment. |

I'm not sure how that changes anything.... then again I always simply click on new posts... to catch up.. Here's a thought, and I don't know if this is possible but what if new heading was created entitled "music".. with a sub menu, like under 'community'... That way, they are easily accessible? Je ne sais pas....... |

While music is why we build our systems, I don't think it's why most come here. The music threads are the icing on the cake but our discussions range a lot of topics. And, after all this time, going back to the other site, my desire to continue coming here has very little to do with the topics and a whole lot to do with the people posting.
