Default Braille Wristwatch

The Haptica Braille timepiece allows the user to get a quick and accurate time reading, taking it a step above previous Braille watches, which simply allow the user to move and feel the watch hands in relation to the watch face. By quickly passing a finger over their watch, a person can find out what time it is, without the inaccuracies and disturbances of previous watch designs.

Very interesting product. Too bad it is still in the concept stage. I wonder what it will sell for?

woodlander.......I imagine it will more expensive than a Casio, and probably less expensive than a TAG, but who knows.

I went to college with a blind gentleman, whom I became good friends with. He was blind from birth, and got around amazingly well without a seeing eye dog, just his white and red cane. Stanley was a true inspiration to me, and a happy individual. I remember the watch he used. It looked like a regular wristwatch with a high crown, but the crown could be flipped open to allow him to touch the hands to be able to tell time. A watch like this one would have been ideal for Stanley.

Stanley must have a superb sense of hearing. He would be a perfect reviewer for audiophile stuff

My friend Stanley is a unique individual. His heightened sense of hearing, and mental recognition is astounding. He is a radio announcer, and worked for years for PBS. He told me he liked being an announcer because no one in the audience ever knew he was blind. I use to listen to him on the air, and he was right.

I had not seen Stanley for almost three years after we graduated. One day I was in downtown Portland, Oregon, and I saw Stanley waiting at a cross walk with his white and red cane. I pulled into a parking space, got out, and called his name to him from across the street. Without a moments hesitation he said, "Dan, how have you been?" That blew my mind. I often forget peoples names, sometimes in less than a year. From only hearing my voice call his name from across the street, he immediately recognized who I was. It was absolutely amazing.

We chatted for only about ten minutes because he was headed to the studio to go on the air. He told me he was married to a blind woman, that they had a sighted child, and that she was a handful, but he was happy.

Stanley has been such an inspiration to me through the years. On many occasions I would be having difficulty with something, and would think of Stanley, and somehow discover a new energy and will to succeed at my task. Stanley truly is a remarkable individual. I have great admiration for him.

Agreed. Psychoacoustic influences is pretty powerful. Stanley would have a strictly objective opinion.

jdandy... You are lucky to have such an inspirational friend. I can see that you respect Stanley very much from your short description.

Sometimes I take too many things for granted and forget how fortunate I already am compared to many people out there. Reading you post has made me appreciate the world that much more. Thanks

Stanley has a great sense of humor, too. He told me once he was going out on a date. I said that was good, and asked him who it was. He said he didn't know, it was a blind date. It's a good thing he laughed, because for a moment I was speechless. Once I realized he was joking it cracked me up.
