Nice . What do you have under the feet of the speaker stands? Do they affect the sound as compared to having the stands directly on the floor?

Les -

I was wondering if someone would notice and ask...

They are regulation hockey pucks. Why you ask, well I wanted to get them sightly higher off the floor and was experimenting with whether slightly de coupling them from the floor made any difference. Recommendation from Devore is to have them right on the floor. As to the effect, well, like so many things in this hobby it is hard to say if they have had a material difference. They didn't have an adverse impact and they do put the tweeters in better alignment with my ears in my room as I sit on a chair higher than most sofas/chairs.

So I leave them on the hockey pucks, in fact might get one more set of pucks and put them one puck higher.

Crazy, eh?

Thanks! Yeah I think they look great and certainly a warmer look than the more industrial Wilson Watt Puppy 8's I had before. DeVore does provide grills, but they look so much better with the grilles off, I only use the grilles if there are going to be little kids running around...

As to WAF, its a combination of they look great, but why are they so big and why do they need to sit so far out from the wall, can't you put them in the corner..

I have not seen them in person, but do they look larger than other speakers you have had? For example , know the o/96 are wider then Devore 9s but not as deep or tall. I guess it must be the extra width that gives the appearance of size.

FWIW, these are more diminutive than they appear in photos. I had a pair of Zu Essence before, and they were in your face, monolithic monsters. They scored a 0 ou of 10 on the WAF. The Os, however, easily get lost in the furniture shuffle. So they blend in well Both the WAF and IDAF score between 6-7. A 10 for either would be something completely out of sight... Of course, that would result in a 0 on the HAF factor... LOL

Jonathan what is "IDAF"?

Les - to give you a sense of dimensions they are 12"d x 18"w x 35.5"h including stands. I don't have the spec's on the Nines, and I only saw/heard them in a showroom, never owned them.

To give you a sense of perspective, the photo with the Jim Hall guitar leaning against the speaker was taken eye level with the woofer. And yes it is the width along with them being on stands that probably gives them that "large" look. BTW when I received them it was easy enough to carry each one on my arms down the stairs to the room they are in now. Try doing that with the bottom cabinet on a Watt Puppy...

I agree too with Jonathan something with a WAF of 10 would result in a 0 for HAF.

Thanks Barr- will have to check out my B-Ray players capabilities. It is
a basic Panasonic, not a top tier player by any means. Too bad there is not more worthwhile live Doors out there. I have Absolutely live and Felt Forum, but I have to say neither has really hit home for me. The Felt Forum almost seems a bit subdued and boring to me. Almost like Jim wasn't twisted, but yet it lacks energy...! I will have to give it another listen.

The Zu (49 x 12 x 12) is slightly taller and wider than the Devore Silverback (H 47.5" x D 17" x W 11") , which I have been considering along with the O/96. The Os are 12"d x 18"w x 35.5"h (including stands), so much shorter but wider than the Zu and the Silverback. I guess what you are saying is from a WAF perspective , wider is better then taller, no?.

Les - Perhaps this is a more diminutive view of the O/96s, perspective changes everything, eh? Hey, I forgot this thread started with your inquiries regarding the O/96, I don't think you will be sorry if you were to buy a set, what speakers do you have currently?

Of course the latours are something like 28" wide, 18" deep and 48" high. From (faulty?) memory.
