The "piquant observation" by the reviewer's audiophile friend sums up my take on Magico speakers on repeated auditions (V2/V3/Q5): "these are the most fabulous speakers I have ever heard...but i don't think i can ever fall in love with them." Always highly resolving, precise and neutral, the proverbial and very cliched clean pane of glass, but I usually don't get the emotional connection to the music. Go figure

I've heard the S5's sound incredible in two different setups - with a Dartzeel NHB-108/NHB-18NS amps, AMG table as source & Crystal Absolute Dream cables, and also with Boulder 1050 mono's, 1010 pre & Vitus SCD-025 cdp. The Dart setup was a bit more emotionally involving, but less dynamic and exciting, so somewhat less engaging. The S5's like a lot of power!

You welcome.
Tomorrow German Stereoplay issue with S5 test with full measurements will be on news stands in EU. As soon as I get the chance to scan it I will post PDF here.

Just finish reading S5 review in German Stereoplay. In short-excellent review. Measurements are also showing few interesting things. Bass is with 26Hz -6db anechoic very deep indeed and S5 could go up to 20Hz in room. S5 is having the deepest bass of all Magico speakers, only Q7 goes deeper. S5 is moderately demanding load with minimum of 2.5 ohms at around 60Hz(which mirrors Hifi News measurements of S5). S5 can produce 112db at 31Hz.

Thanks for sharing.

Summary:

S5 plays in the same league as Wilson Sophia, Vivid Audio Giya and T+A CWT 2000.
