Bach - Goldberg Variations
Gustav Leonhardt, harpsichord

There is something about the harpsichord (yes Julian!).
It is so subtle, so refined, yet so expressive.
I prefer these pieces played by a harpsichord, rather than a grand piano.

Butterworth - Delius - Grainger
Hallé, musical director Sir Mark Elder
Hallé Choir, Lyn Fletcher

We heard this orchestra some time ago live.
Truly great, with a wonderful conductor explaining the works with dedication and love.

Butterworth's pieces are the reason I bought this album.
They're magnificent.
It is a tragedy that 1) he died so young on the battlefields and 2) he destroyed a lot of his own work because he didn't feel they were good.
What a waste...

The Delius (I'm a big fan!), and Grainger pieces are of course also worth hearing.

+ 1 I feel the same way about the sound signature of the harpsichord.

Frederick Delius - 150th Anniversary Edition

CD 16: A Village Romeo and Juliet - Scenes 1 - 4

Even in this dramatic work, you get the scent of fields and countryside. A sensation that runs through Delius' compositions.

Utterly delicious music.
Meta and I really adore polyphony.
This is a very nice collection, it is always in rotation.

Franz Liszt - Sinistre - Late Piano Works
Péter Tóth, piano

These heavy pieces from Liszt through 5 channels: it makes it all even heavier...
