Newly arrived from Germany, a beautiful set of complete Beethoven Piano Sonatas. 11 mint condition LPs in a linen covered box. DGG SKL 901-911 with lots of big fat tulips. Circa 1965, his second recording of the werke but first in stereo,I believe this is the first edition of this set.

Performed by Wihelm Kempff. He can play lightly with a firm touch, subtle, spontaneous, yet classic performances, Lot's of pianists to choose from, particularly on CD; not as many on vinyl as there was once. If you're looking, WK is a solid choice that will stay fresh over time.

Sonics are delightful for solo piano. Clear water. Neither boomy nor edgy with little evidence of post production fiddling. Supposedly the mono version is even better.

Apologies for the large graphic.

Tchaikovsky Symphony No 5
London Symphony Orchestra, Igor Markevitch conducting
Philips

I picked this up for a couple of $ at a used record shop, and it's a pleasant surprise - a solid performance and good sound, and only a couple of ticks and pops.

Earlier today:

A very nice collection of harpsichord performances by the great Zuzana Ruzickova, and very nice sound from Supraphon.

Default Chopin: Piano Concertos

This today...

Chopin:
Piano Concerto No. 1 in E minor, Op. 11
Piano Concerto No. 2 in F minor, Op. 21
Ingrid Fliter (piano)
Scottish Chamber Orchestra, Jun Märkl

Just gorgeous and an absolutely beautiful interpretation of these concerti. The Linn sound quality (on the SACD layer) is superlative with great presence and transparency. Everything comes across clearly and with proper impact especially the brass. The piano sound is some of the best I've heard. This is a winner on all counts.
