Bavarian,
Notice that the original question you posted was "805D + Sub OR 804D Alone?" but I see a lot of suggestions for 804D + Sub. Is this this third option something that you are considering or would consider? Just curious.

I'm also considering the Sonus Faber Olympica II's. Not real sure what I want to do yet. The Sonus are a considerable jump up in price from the 804Ds so I would likely need the proceeds from the sub to help in that regard... |

What is the cost of a 804d in the USA now-a-days? I was considering buying one for a temporary 2 channel system, before moving it into a HT system down the road.

I believe they go for $7,500 per pair.

SWeeeee-T. I was thinking that, but I had $9000 in the back of my head. At 9K its debatable as to whether to just step up into the 13-15k range of floor-standers, instead. Well, at least to audition what's available in that range for 2 channel (Tannoy, Sonas Faber).
I have the 805d's already, so I kind of have a good idea what the 804d's would sound like... and at $7,500 that seems like a really good deal that would keep me happy for a while... before moving them into a HT setup. Last edited by DavidA; 03-18-2014 at 10:46 PM. |

Vote for two subwoofers anytime, its about stereo after all..
Would you disconnect one woofer on your mainspeakers? well then ;-) Who marketed the mere idea of adding 'a subwoofer' sure was no audiophile. Better two 528 REL's in stereo, then one G1. |

I listened to 804Di and 805Di side by side on the same upstreams which were all Classe including some Classe M600 monoblocks.
The FST is the one thing that stands out. Midrange and vocal clarity is much better with the 804Di compared to the 805. No contest. |
