Default Reference 5 SE Record Out

I am a tad confused on how this works. I have always assumed that I can connect the record out to the input of my recorder and it will record whatever has been selected as the input (CD, Phono, etc).

Here is what is says in the manual:

It is possible to dub or copy from one recorder to
another by connecting the output of the source
recorder to an unused set of stereo inputs (Aux 1,
Aux 2). The signal will then be routed to the Record
Out connectors when that input source is selected

I don't understand why it is singling out Aux 1 or Aux 2. Can someone explain?

Also, I guess this isn't a full tape monitor/loop since one cannot monitor the deck that is doing the recording?

You can connect the source deck to any unused input. You are correct that the the Ref 5 does not have a tape loop.

Was the reference to Aux 1 or Aux 2 just an example? Are they treated any differently than any other input?

Yes, the manual's reference to Aux 1 and Aux 2 is just an example. The inputs are actually all the same.
