Venom interconnect direction of arrow?
Hi... on my Venom RCA interconnects, there is an arrow that points one way.
Should the arrow point toward the pre amp or toward the source? Another question... Can this RCA be used between the pre amp and the amp? If it can, should the arrow point toward the amp? Thank you. |

The arrow points in the direction of the sound. Therefore Source to PreAmp or PreAmp to Amp

The arrow should point in the direction that the music flows.
Component ---> Pre Pre----> amp |

Arrows point towards ground. Since the preamp is the only component that should utilize a 3 prong plug, then it is source to preamp and amp to preamp as far as arrows. This way the preamp is the ground collector. Sometimes that actually helps with grounding issues. Or if the manufacturer has other recommendations on how that works with their product, follow their advice.

Sorry, I have never heard a cable manufacturer indicate the arrow points from amp to pre-amp. Always the other way around. |

Directional arrows on cables have nothing to do with "flow" of electrons. It is done for grounding and as always, in audio, there are various opinions. If the IC has an arrow then the shield is grounded on one end only. The preamp should always be the ground collector.

Does it matter that the source components have three prong plugs?

When thinking of "directional flow" don't forget that an audio cable, be it microphone, line or speaker level is still a sinewave and as such it is a miniature version of AC or alternating current waveform. Kind of silly to mention flow since it goes back and forth. If one way is the preferred way then the return way is not?

If you don't have ground loops/hum, don't worry about it. You can also try your "directional" IC's either way, if you hear a difference, leave it that way.
