I guess once you go mono, there's no reason to go back to stereo. Unless you are getting rid of the amp.

Correct.

I am not sure, but I believe I was told there will be better performance if the amp is set up for mono from the beginning. They are much more versatile as stereo using the Y-cable.

Maybe it's because there's less connection points + shorter wire to pick up noise?

Hi Tommy,

That makes a lot of sense. Plus they will bias/match the amps as closely as possible. Which I am sure also helps.

Joe

I imagine it would match up great. EVERYTHING I've read about the Nagra has been very positive and all reviews have been superb.

One should always check impedance matches when pairing gear from different mfrs.

The rules of coupling preamp-power amplifier are:
a) the value of Impedance Output of the preamp must be sufficiently low and the Impedance Input of power amplifier must be sufficiently high (at least 1:10);
b) the Max Voltage Output of the preamp must be higher than the Sensitivity Input value of the power amplifier.

The values involved are listed below:

Nagra PL-L
Max Voltage Output: 1.0V Unbalanced/Balanced
Impedence Output: 60Ohms

Burmester 911 MK3
Sensitivity Input: 770mV Unbalanced/Balanced
Impedance Input: 22.9kOhms Unbalanced, 1.8kOhms Balanced

So they seem compatible!
