The midrange to higher level Sonys sound are circumaural, closed cup, sound very good, block out extraneous sound very well and are very efficient so if you are using it with an iPod, the battery will last longer.

Hi guys, I've been using headphones and earbuds since a good time now but recently I stumbled a Round-up about earbuds and I saw Shure's E425 here, All I want to ask is, IS it really worth to buy that much expensive piece of earbuds? like 270-300 Dollars on earbuds, or maybe I should buy an Over the ear headphone set?

I almost went with the NAD HP50's to use as a semi-portable headphone with my Pono, but passed due to several complaints over comfort/fit on larger heads over at Head-Fi. I have a large hat size and was a little concerned. I settled on the fairly new Oppo PM-3's, but those are a little above the OP's price range ($400).

The wired Senn Momentum 2's are well thought of, but the wireless version not as much. The M1's were a little thump for my taste.

I have Westone W20s. They're very comfortable in-ears and are the best sound for the money I've tried. Definitely in the range you're asking for.

Beyer DT880's get my vote in this price bracket.

I have owned AKG701's , DT880's and now have Grado RS1i's but they are in another price bracket all together.

I think you need to first consider where you want to use these and if you want closed type to prevent noise leaking in or out or you would be happy with semi open ones
Are they for home use or do you want to use them on the move etc. Answering those questions will help you hone in on some suitable choices.
