Am a long-term user of the C2200 and MC75 60ths and MC275MkV. They are/were terrific. However, I wanted to downsize and tried the MA2275. What a let-down, sonically. Great looking/functionality, but the MA2275 just does not do it sonically. Tried tube rolling and various sets of speakers and it just has no 'there' for my ears. However, the same cannot be said of the SLI-80. Not only is it a beautiful to look at piece, it sounds great. Did go back and forth mentally between the SLI-80 and the Manley Stingray before pulling the trigger on the SLI-80. Got the proverbial 'deal', so that made the choice easy. Have ordered another set of 6SN7s to let the tube-rolling begin.

Glenn, what speakers are you using with the SLI-80?

Pair of Joseph Audio Cinergy 5.1s set up on stands as monitors. 89db efficient, IIRC.

Did roll in a matched set of GE 6SN7GTBs just before we left for Ottawa. After ~10hr of run time on the GEs the reissue Tung-Sols sound better to my ears. I'll give the GEs 100hr and then A/B them.

Great amp which I am sure you will enjoy for years. I always loved Cary product design. Unfortunately I never owned one. Someday...

Felt the same way about Cary since listening to a friend's SLI-70 back in the '90s. After the need to downsize with retirement became real, have been trying various integrated amps and think the SLI-80 will stay for a while.

Do you have a link? What are the differences between that and the standard SLI-80?

I have joined the SLI-80 ranks. I was able to grab a good deal on a used one and have been putting the hours on it this weekend. It has some of the F1 mods (Jensen caps and Kimber cable CD input) It came with Genalex KT88's and Electro Harmonix 6SN7's. I added Genalex 6922's and Philips 5R4GYS's to the mix. It is a wonderful addition to the 2 channel rig.

I am running it with my venerable Vandersteen 1B's (at least 25 years old!) and they have never sounded so good. I DL'd some new DSD128 files and it is remarkable.I feel like I am in the club at the 2nd row table.

I have heard from one SLI-80 owner that he is running the KT120's in the SLI-80 rather than the usual KT88's. Is anyone else trying this? Any noticeable differences?

Can't say with Cary. I've run KT-90, 6550 and KT-120 in my C-J Pr11A and 6550, KT-120 in my C-J LP140M's. The KT-120's are more extended in both directions and have a more dynamic sound. Depending on the rest of the system, 6550's might be preferred for a bit of warmth/rolloff. With my Cary SLP05, the KT-120's are preferable for me.
