Great thread, how far have you taken "Alignment" with your current cart? I'm running a very similar setup with Xtension 10, Blackbird (LO), C47. I've held off tweaking alignment too much as the X10 tonearm seems tricky to fine tune.

I'm pretty manic about my set-up and alignment. I use a microscope so I can get the exact 92 degree SRA, a Fozgo to set the Azimuth (my table needed no adjustment there), and the Dr. Fickert app to adjust the speed, etc. The X10 is tricky, but not impossible to get just right. When it's dialed in, it's REALLY good.

As a result of my persnickety, patient nature, I've been asked to set up a bunch o 'tables. The reason I started this thread was due to installing a Koetsu Jade Platinum on a friends Ovation with Clarify Arm. The difference between that cart and his former, albeit slightly wore Benz Micro Gullwing was stunning. It got me thinking....

Default Cartridge Recommendations for ProJect Xtension 10

Ryan, in case you missed it, Josh aka Livestrong has a Sumiko Palo Santos for sale on the site for a heck of a good price, right in your range. I don't think you could do much better than that for this table.

Nice If the Pearwood is already this good, the Palo Santos must be stellar.

I have a unique opportunity to pick up either a Koetsu Black Goldline, Rosewood Standard, or Rosewood Signature. I'd love the signature, but are they really worth the extra $$$?

And are the Rosewoods really all that much better than the Black Goldline.

I know this is a really open ended, and subjective question, but I am curious to see if anyone has moved up the Koetsu line and can elaborate. I've seen at least one review that went through the progression.

Quick update:

I installed the Koetsu Rosewood Standard, and it seems a really good mate for my tonearm. I've got quite a way to go on break-in, but I like the direction the cart is taking so far. The soundstage is quite striking in comparison to my prior Black Bird HO cart.

More to come.

Thanks! It's quite a cart to set-up, but when the set is right, the cart is really right!!
