First masterpiece from this genius.
Groundbreaking album from '56.

Lee Morgan - Volume 2: Sextet

More splendid music from '56.
The recording is very well remastered.

Sarah Vaughan - Sarah Vaughan's Finest Hour

One of the truly great voices in jazz, a three octave range, and really the ability to sing any style.

David Sanborn - timeagain

You will get a lot of opinions about David Sanborn, including that he was washed up by the '80's. I happen to think this 2003 album is a masterpiece. It includes seven covers of some very famous tunes, but I think he makes them his own on this album.

Ben Webster - See You At The Fair
Hybrid SACD, Acoustic Sounds (CIPJ 65 SA)

It just seems extra quiet when you have a marine cloud layer in the morning. Thought it would be a good morning to listen to my AKG K1000 ear speakers. Around where I live they have been advertising local fairs on the television. Thought I would play the album "See You At The Fair" by Ben Webster. I've played this album a few time, but I never realized how the track order made this album great. Nothing more can be said about Ben's playing, lyrical with touches of tenderness.

Tommy Flanagan Trio - Overseas
Hybrid SACD (Mono) / Analogue Productions PRLP 7134
Prestige recording from 1956.
A great Tommy Flanagan recording, his piano really has presence. Also the drum work really caught my attention. Elvin's brush work is great, and is sounds like he switches between brushes and sticks on some of the recordings.

New York Trio - The Things We Did Last Summer
24/96 Flac download

It was a pleasure to start off my day listening to this album. Bill Charlap's piano playing never had any of that excess you sometimes hear from other players just trying to fill up the musical space. Leonhart's bass holds everything together, and Stewart's brush work throughout the album completes the overall character of these recordings. This recording must have been closely mixed, there is a lot of detail in this recording. You can hear the textures of the brushes on the drum skins, and the mechanical workings of the piano.
