Here are what ARC replied me about new green circuit board. And so call premium tubes.
Toga thank you for your comments. Audio Research changed board materials for a couple of significant reasons: the light brown material we previously used had become nearly impossible to attain, and as such, made it very costly (in turn making each product more expensive). The coated green boards have been engineered to provide virtually identical performance (and better in some respects), while also adding the benefit of protecting the boards from corrosion (a potential issue in coastal/humid climates) for better reliability and longevity. We call our tubes 'premium' because we source the best-sounding tubes we can find, and then test each one individually at the factory for optimum performance and reliability. |

Hopefully new versions of the REF75/150/250 are due early 2016 to pair with the REF6

The later Ref 5se's have green boards also. I have owned two Ref 5se's, one of each board material. My green recent model is AT LEAST as good sounding. I will just leave it at that. Definitely not less, and maybe even better...

I've had the ref6(from ref5se) for 3 weeks now and heard the ref5se (1000+Hrs) vs the ref6(35hrs) side by side...
To my ears the ref6 was night and day difference.... Suffice to say I bought the demo unit on the spot... |

I don't like the new look. Looks like a cheaper version. I will keep me 5SE.

Gapple, We need more, can you give us some insight into what led you to choose the Ref 6 over the 5SE?

While I am sure it's great, I do find it hard to believe that there is a night and day difference. What's changed? A few more tubes. What else, exactly?

A dealer told me the Ref 6 will be available in black the first quarter of 2016. As far as the look I'd have to see one in person, the case certainly looks more substantial.
