Default Moving up from the C2500 - opinions?

Hi guys

I’m contemplating a move up from my C2500 pre-amp which feeds into my two MC 1.2Kw power amps. I don’t use the DAC in the C2500 as my K-01x is vastly superior...

My speakers are the new B&W800 D3’s which I absolutely love! I’m feeling that my pre-amp is probably the weakest link in the chain so the obvious next step is the C1100. I’ve also read that others have had success using a Ref 5 or 6 pre amp with McIntosh power amps but the preference would probably be to stick with the green machine (ala McIntosh).

I’m interested in hearing from others that may have moved up the McIntosh pre amp chain (or even gone from a C2500 to C1100) and what sort of a difference they’ve experienced...

Thanks!

Jamie.......I tend to agree with you, the obvious next step would be the McIntosh C1100. I think the C1100 would be a perfect match for your MC1.2KW amps.

I went from a C2300 to the C1100. I was really happy with the C2300. The C1100 is just that much better. The C1100 totally transformed my system. I listened to the Ref6 prior to pulling the trigger on the C1100, and I really did not care for the sound. It was an easy choice for my ears. YMMV.

I personally wouldn't go with a Ref6 paired with McIntosh amps. Stick with McIntosh and go with the C1100.

Thanks guys for the response - looks like the C1100 is a clear favourite at this stage. I’m hoping to get one in home next week to try for a week - if I go ahead then I’ll have another challenge of fitting in my rack given the additional height!

There’s always something in this game isn’t there!

The C1100 would be my choice. Big solid state MC 1.2Kw amps matched with the C1100 tubes.

Trying at home would make you happy with either preamp;I have paired Ref 6 with MC 1.2 KW with success and i am happy with details, dynamics, and warmth;speakers at present are BW 802D3 alternating with Scala V2
In fact, i am so thrilled with Ref 6 ,i am seriously considering jumping for 160M amps as soon as i am on my feet( financially stable)

They are great speakers IMHO. Something further to look forward to by the sound of it!

Did you try the C1100 with the MC1.2’s against the Ref 6 out of interest?

Try to get a home demo and report back your comparison findings.
