Seiko Astron 2015 Limited Edition

This is an interesting and unique webpage featuring the new Seiko Astron GPS/Solar watch.

I like the mother of pearl dial face and ceramic bezel. I may have to take a closer look at this Seiko model SSE039. I also like the titanium Astron model SSE041.

Olaf.......I agree. Seiko has always been inventive with their approach to watch making. They introduced the world's first quartz watch in 1969. Now quartz watches are everywhere. This newest concept of using GPS signals to keep the watch accurate to within 1 second per 100 years while using light as a power source is astonishing and another world's first. Even if the watch sets in a drawer for extended periods of time it will continue to operate for up to six months when fully charged. The combination of titanium and ceramic materials produces an exceptionally durable watch that is light weight and comfortable to wear.

The more I look at the Seiko Astron GPS/Solar model SSE041, the more it is calling my name. Not only is the watch attractive and unique but the titanium band with black ceramic inserts is quite stunning. List is $2200 but I think they are available in the range of $1895. That is a lot of technology and advanced features for the price.

Really nice, Dan. I agree with all your comments, I've been tracking these for a while now. Seiko's technology in many areas is unmatched by anyone in many areas of horology (for example, their Mecha-quartz, Spring Drive, etc). My two Citizen Skyhawk A-Ts are titanium also, and i personally think Ti is a wonderful material for watches, it's strong, light and is feels very, very comfortable on the skin. It's also hypoallergenic for folks that allergies to other metals, or steels that contain zinc. IIRC, both Seiko and Citizen coat their titanium watches with a coating that minimizes the risk of scratches and scuffs.

I like the SSE041 as well....IIRC, this is the watch that tennis world #1 Novak Djokovic wears...
