I also use the free iPad app VNC Viewer to control non-audio related functions on my Mac Mini.

My plan is a very basic Mac mini setup. I only want to use the optical out at this time to connect to my DAC. I wish roon had exact instructions on how to do this because everything I’m reading seems to be setup for roon ready devices and usb DAC’s. One nice thing is that I also have an iMac so I’ll set it up for screen sharing should I ever need to access the Mac mini.

You don’t have to have a Roon ready DAC to run Roon. Check out the Roon forums for instructions on how to set up a Mac Mini as your Roon Core.

I installed roon on my Mac mini then use a wire world usb cable I bought from Ivan which connects to my Directstream DAC. Very simple sound great.

Default Mac mini Setup

I got the Mac mini all set up with roon last night and it’s working. I wish there was a little more information regarding some of the features and icons but I’m beginning to figure it out. It’s actually a very sweet program! Having an iMac too with screen sharing is helpful in case things crash and for updating iTunes.
