It`s not the Mac`s. This is a mistake that many make, they start a witch hunt with other components, i changed one thing the sound went from sublime to just good.

I have been thru the music server merry go round with units in value from 5k to 30k. and none were any better than the Mac Mini. At one time several years ago i used to evaluate equipment for several importers and manufactures so i know what`s out there and how it relates to what i have. If anything my system is revealing the the Alpha needs a burn in period.

I have two systems and the result is the same in both with the Alpha.

Yes.

It might not be the thing you want to hear to get a high quality streamer instead of a mac mini but it will be worth it IMHO.

As for the difference in alpha vs nordost+regen. I would assess these on equal terms without the regen at all in the setup. Then you can assess what the USB cables does for themselves.

Now that you have an Alpha USB, you should most certainly hear significant differences between servers.

I've also owned an Alpha USB and I can assure you that it's a fantastic cable. It would be a terrible waste to use one of these though with a Mac - unless the Mac was powered by a really good linear power supply. But even in that case, you would be best served following Puma's advice.

Perhaps that may speed getting past this tough phase. I would think though if this isn't just slow breakin then something else is wrong
Hey! This has helped, since you posted this i did what you said just streaming music into my DAC with the amp off. So this evening i decided to do some listening and i have noticed an improvement and i mean a big improvement. I`m going to continue this. Many thanks! I have always let the stereo run at low volume with other cables but this is a cool way to burn in a USB cable.

I never listen to cables or equipment as they burn in i will give them a listen now and then just to see how the burn in is coming along, this way the mind and hearing is not just getting accustom to the sound and coming to the conclusion that something sounds good.

I can hear every cable change i make very clearly. Many have said that i have the best sounding systems that they have ever heard. My systems just reveal everything for the good or bad.

I just posted that the Alpha cable is starting to come around so i have hope.

I have had 30k streamers feeding my custom one off 30k Lampazator DAC.

I was in the Audio industry, lets just say i see what`s being used behind closed doors and i`ll leave it at that.

I'm glad to hear that the Alpha is now more to your liking. I also appreciate that your audio industry experience allowed you to gain a different perspective. But I don't think it's really fair to use that to discount the feedback from those, like myself, who are not in the audio industry. I had nothing to gain by telling you that the Mac is a terrible music server. My only hope was to guide you to greater musical enjoyment.

I said thank you to you and everyone else i did not discount anyone i would not do that. Look at the post above yours.

I just disagree about the Mac as i have had mega dollar streamers. Good sound is just the start and once you get to great sound there is one more level and that`s the level where magic happens eerie realism that defies logic and once you experience it it changes everything.
