Phelonic resin in it's most affodable form is everyday plastic laminate (Formica).

I've since discovered that I am not a fan of how most plastics sound.

I repurposed some 1"x12" aluminum and stainless steel from previous furniture projects and laid in on granual free Ice & Water Shield on MDF to good affect.

New design will be 1/4" aluminum on Isodamp or acoustic mastic on 3/4" Baltic Birch plywood in a symetrical sandwich.

More info in link below.

If I stumble upon a cheap source of old lab tops I may experiment.

Are you sure? I thought Formica was a laminate made with melamine resin, which is not a polymer.

I’m not sure what my SRA Scuttle shelved are made of but it is very dense and heavy. Whatever it is, seems to work. I wonder if it is similar to Wilson X material which I believe is a phenolic resin of sorts...
