Default What Do You Think These Covers I Made for my MC2301's?

Over the years, I've noticed how all of my audio equipment quickly becomes a magnet for dust. Whereas most solid state equipment may be easy to dust and keep clean, my tube equipment was a bit more of a challenge. A few weeks ago, I decided to make my own custom dust covers to fit over my MC2301 amplifiers so that when they are not being used they will keep dust off the amplifiers. They fit snuggly around the amplifier and are easily removed, so I think they turned out great and look unobtrusive in the room when not in use.

I made the cover made using a 30oz black vinyl that has the look and feel of leather. The interior is covered with a soft felt lining so that it does not scratch the amp as the dust cover is removed or covered. I added gold piping just to dress it up. I was going to have the McIntosh logo stitched on the front and may decide to add that at a later date.

What does everyone think? Would you have built them any differently? Is there a need among other audio enthusiast for something like this?

Chad

Chad...nicely done On a separate topic, the issue you were having with the 2301s has been resolved?

Hi Cyril - I made a decision to 'upgrade' (I hope that is true) from the McIntosh tubes to the Gold Lions, which I understand are superior in sound, but Audio Classics did not have the KT88's in stock. On February 8th, Audio Classics ran the replacement amps for an entire day without incident and are awaiting the Gold Lion tubes to install and run for another 2 days to certify performance and capture any premature failures.

Having large boxes sit in my main room waiting to be returned and not being able to listen to my new Wilson Sophia's for almost two months now is sure teaching me the art of patience.

Thanks for asking!

Best,

Chad

I hear you Chad. Good luck when they come back. I am sure you will be nothing but blown away with the MC2301s driving the S3s.

Chad.......Your amplifier covers are very well done. I think they are marketable. You could sell them, and as a customer option the McIntosh logo could be embroidered on in gold to match the piping. I think the covers are quite attractive. .

Nice job Chad, I couldn't use covers since mine are in a rack though.

P.S. Do I see a stock power cord?

First, I love the dust covers. Those are super nice. Let us know if you think you might make those available to the masses.

Second, I don't know about ostrich feather dusters. I have never experienced one. But I will give a raving review of these Australian Lambs Wool dusters from our sponsor, AV Solutions. I just got mine and could not be more delighted. They are very feathery .... well, light as a feather you might say. And you can get in, under and around the nooks and crannies like cable and speaker connections, no problem.

Keep us all posted on the MC2301s. It is my understanding from this thread that Audio Classics is sending you a different pair, hence the term "replacement" in your reference.

Oh, by the way, is that an Oyaide R1 AC Receptacle with a WPC-Z Duplex Carbon Fiber Cover Plate I see in your first photo? If yes, what do you think?
