Which one sounds better? At end, it might be a personal preference as well.

After reading your valuable input, reading the reviews and the forums, I think I am going to go with 800D1 for the following 2 reasons.
1. I can purchase a brand new pair of 802D2 from a local dealer any time I want. However, a used pair of 800D1 in mint condition is not so easy to find.
2. Big saving on the used 800D1 compare to the new price at the time. It's like buying a used BMW 7 series or Mercedes-Benz S Class. A better buy.
Good decision!
Good luck with them!

+1 Be sure to give them a thorough listening (test drive) if you can.

Good analogy.

You can spend as much on an Accord as a really nice used Porsche 911... My Hyundai gets performance anxiety parked next to the 993...

I have an older set of 800's with a sub and had to get rid of the sub because the low range was too good, if that helps.

This means the amplifier will need to supply more current during peak dissipation frequencies given the same amplitude (volume).
running my 800D with mc 501's at 250 watts, they would shut down after a few minutes and be warm.

running 800D with 1.2kw at 250 watts no sweat, cool running.

I think your logic for the 800D not coming up for sale nearby very often, is sound, I managed to buy my 802D2's locally second hand. My little tuppence is that the drivers are hugely different between the 2 series, as are the crossovers. Now you can get the 802D2's home for a demo in your room against the 800d1 and let us know if the marketing hype is real. Congrats on a great speaker! I find the most impressive thing about my 802d2's is the driver integration top to bottom, I have heard more "hi-fi" speakers i.e.. exaggerated top end which sounds more "airy" and detailed initially, until you try and pick the instruments out and the piano sounds like an electric piano. For me tonal accuracy is of utmost importance. Somehow B&W voice their speakers beautifully, I have the 805 signature's as well, now that's got beautiful cabinetry!!
