I used to add watermarks, but honestly that doesn't deter people that want to lift images. If they want it, they'll take it. Either that, or they'll crop out the watermark if you put a discrete one in the corner. What I find more reliable is saving your information in the EXIF data. I have all the RAW files and hi res images. I only post the lower res jpegs for Flickr and general online sharing, forums etc. I have the real deal should someone swipe any of them. That works better than watermarking for me, and I have busted some people that way.
