Wilson Owners and Amps
What amplifiers are you using w/ your Wilson speakers ? Have you changed amps with them? Please describe the results.

Using a ARC Ref 110 with K120 tubes and Transparent cables. Very happy with the combination. That is the amp I had when I bought the Sophia so I do not have any other experience. I cannot see changing amps in the foreseeable future.

They sounded really great.

As always in this hobby----I have found no absolutely perfect amp for my Wilsons which over the years have included Sophias, WP 7s and now Sashas, but the current generation ARC amps come closest with Lamm hybrids very close (but different flavor).
Have also owned or listened at length to Mac tubes 2102 and 2301 and solid state, conrad johnson, simaudio, spectral, VTL. Have also heard BAT with WP 7s with which I was also very impressed--in fact, may be in the first tier--, but only had a half hour of listening and only with blues so cannot draw definitive conclusion on all counts. All of the amps were impressive in one way or another and I could understand anyone choosing the Mac for smoothness, CJ for modern tube sound, VTL for very slightly buffed yet transparent and always pleasing and dimensional sound, but I prefer the ARC's combination of neutrality plus dimensionality and texture. By no means weak in the mid to upper bass (as with all tubes under $40,000.00 that I have heard) but IMHO one needs solid state or massive tubeage to shine there with the Sashas in particular. Don't like the balance of any solid state presentation, hence the Lamm hybrids which have more punch, but not quite as neutral or transparent as ARC. My 2 cents. Good luck in your search.
