Default MS300, Ran When Parked, need link help

My MS300 worked when I shelved it a few years back.

Before Putting it back into service, I took the precaution of getting FW Audio to rebuild the PS. They said I caught it just in time.

However, hooked into my system, I get a continual reboot when tied to network, and blue screen when not. Flashing red light.

I've tried to find the posts with action process to fix with no success.

I'm electronically challenged, so maybe I need to weigh sending for repair with scrapping and replacement.

Any assistance is greatly appreciated.

Walt.......In my opinion you are trying to resurrect a dinosaur, and even if successful it will still be a dinosaur. The MS300 and MS750 were good music servers in their time but compared to what is available today for far less than the McIntosh music servers cost when new you can have leading edge technology, reliability, and a user interface that makes the McIntosh system look like it was developed by a kindergartner. The money and time you will spend trying to keep a MS300 or MS750 running, plus the frustration of no support, makes the idea an exercise in futility.

There are so many music server options available today at good price points that are totally mature. It seems silly to me to waste time on old technology. The MS300 and MS750 can only reproduce 16Bit/44kHz music files. The user interface is archaic compared to what is available today, and reliability will always be sketchy even if you have a working unit.

Take a look at the Aurender N100H or N100C. Both are remarkably well made and purpose built music servers at price points that don't require a second mortgage. They sound amazing, and the user interface is simple and intuitive. Either of these music servers will quickly make you forget the dinosaurs every existed.

There are a number of MS 300 / 750 threads regarding people trying to resurrect dead units. The outcome is far from certain with no guarantees.

They just make me sad.

Time to move on.

I have a MS750. I never, repeat, never, ever used it to its fullest purpose. I paid way too much for it and bought it way, way late in the game. That being said I bought it, hooked it up to a MDA1000, hit open/close button and play, disk by disk and enjoyed it briefly. Then after it sat for a couple months I turned it on and the entire faceplate would not light up, the standby button blinked red, the unit made a clicking noise every 8 to 10 seconds. I hooked it up to a monitor and it was trying to boot. Nothing. Dead. I sent the power supply to Ft Worth audio. Installed it when it came back, same results as before. Then I ordered a replacement (refurbished) hard drive from Amazon. Today I FINALLY, after weeks and weeks, installed the new hard drive and a software disk. Well, it worked. My unit powers on, lights up, and now has a rebuilt HD and PS. It continually wanted to connect to the Mc servers, etc...I finally got it to just open and I stuck a music cd in and it appeared to have played (I only had it hooked to a monitor and no audio cables). I now have to start the whole process of ripping music to the hard drive and setting it up but I can't do it tonight...I'm on a different project, trying to set up my MX-122 with video/audio sources. I'm here to help but honestly I receive way more help here than I give. Anyway, that's my 2 cents. I'm happy to share more once I have time to re-visit the MS750 later this week.

I never owned one for reasons I won't go into, but pretty much every MS300/750 post around here is about fixing a broken one. I'd move on. Maybe see if Audio Classics would buy/trade for it, or salvage the PSU and common Mc parts like the side rails and recycle the rest.

I’m convinced, no more time or funds will be invested.

Thanks for the reality check.

For $275 it might be worth a shot?? It worked for me. $150 power supply and $125 hard drive. I removed and re-installed both with 1 screwdriver. Maybe I was just lucky.

as much as I bitch about my MS300/750, I actually do loves the machine. I know it can be a real pain in the rear at times, but I manage to over come those glitches. After all, what can I replace it with and still maintain the McIntosh look. Anything else will just not match.

Just put a “real music server” behind your MS300/750.
