Default McIntosh in "The Absolute Sound" Magazine

Happy Sunday all,

So as I was sipping my first cup of coffee while listening to my new 601's this morning, I was also reading the new issue of TAS and came across an ad for McIntosh!
I know, not huge news, but I was still surprised and excited as I have never seen one before. Just wanted to share.

Have a great long weekend!

There is so much "McIntosh bashing" out there, good to see this ad, maybe those "bashers" will "chill" some and let us know enjoy their equipment not be judged so harshly by the "bashers".

Over the weekend I attended the DC Hi-Fi Group's monthly meeting. One of the presenters is a guy who has been repairing equipment for a long time. It got me thinking that, if you drop a lot of coin now on your audio equipment, it would definitely be "nice" if down the road the manufacturer was still in business, so parts and service would be available. Of all the bad things people say about McIntosh, their ability to stay in business for the long haul is not one of them!

I really don’t understand what people bash McIntosh for. State of the art units, incredible sound. If someone does not like the sound, they can buy whatever makes them happy. I know I could not have been happier since I built my McIntosh system.

I have been waiting for a front glass for my MVP871 for over 7 months. It's true that McIntosh has a great sonic quality that I really like but they should work on making parts for the older equipment. I spoke with them and was told that the glass silk screening machine is concentrated on new equipment. You would think that a company like McIntosh would have more than one machine. The waiting continues. ☹️

McIntosh owners are probably the most passionate lovers of their equipment than any other brand. I always thought they looked old fashioned and ugly but for some bizarre reason was drawn to them and their iconic history.
Maybe those blue and green lights have mystical powers?

Thank god there is an option to turn the meter lights off or I would just stare at them instead of watching my movies...

The 1/4 page b&w magazine advertisements McIntosh used to run back in the mid-70s did no justice to what a McIntosh product looked like in person. In fact, Mc advertising of the time made their products appear rather frumpy. Barely a teenager at the time, all I wanted were big receivers from Pioneer, Kenwood, Sansui, Technics, Marantz, Rotel etc etc. etc.

I used to send out postpaid reader service cards where you'd circle numbers that corresponded to products advertised throughout the magazine and the manufacturers would send you product literature. On a whim, I decided to circle the one for McIntosh. When I received the full line white McIntosh catalog, everything I had thought I knew about McIntosh up to that point was demolished forever. Even though the b&w format was still used (except with bigger photos), it became clear that McIntosh was in an entirely different league from the others.

My grandfather had always told me McIntosh was the best. As far as I'm concerned, he was right.
