I give you my view, the XP-20 is certainly better than the XP-10, both share the same sonic signature, but the XP-20 will be better for the ends, and besides the soundtage is bigger, I say this because I sold both teams and now in my system I'm using an XP-30 without doubt the best of the brand, if you could make an effort, I promise you will not regret it, it's like they say in the review, a "real time machine" you goes back to the time of the musical event, as it was recorded.

Hi Adrian,
Which amp are you using with the XP-30? I'm currently running straight from my DAC to the XA-100.5. After I upgrade my DAC (by the end of the year), I'll possibly be looking to add a Pass preamp in 2014. Is the difference between the XP-20 and XP-30 significant? Can you describe the differences. Thanks, Ken |

Are the Pass Labs preamps on the same level as the amps? I would like the preamps but not enough features for me compared to Accuphase, Luxman, and McIntosh!

I own both and no doubt that the XP-20 is better, much better. Is by far the quietest preamp i ever hear.
Better and bigger soudstage, a lot of detail, better and powerfull bass. The XP-20 needs mínimum 5 days of warm up to bring you the full potential and if you can, upgrade the umbilical powercord with a Revelation Audio Labs Cryo Silver Reference DB-25.....the results are outstanding!!!! This Pass preamps don't have the possibility to leave it in stand by mode, they are on or off only.
The 5 days of warm up starts when you plug the powercord in the wall outlet |

Pass XP-10 vs. XP-20
From the XP-20 owner's manual...seems they have a sense of humor; "There is an Extremely Small (but Non-zero) Chance That, Through a Process Know as Tunneling, This Product May Spontaneously Disappear from Its Present Location and Reappear at Any Random Place within the Universe, Including Your Neighbor’s Domicile. The Manufacturer Will Not Be Responsible for Any Damages, Inconvenience or Mental Anguish That May Result. There is a much higher probability that when you first plug your new pre-amps power supply into the wall and listen to your favorite selections that you will not be experiencing the full measure of performance this product is capable of. These are high bias Class A topology circuits and their performance is largely temperature dependent. We expect these circuits to heat up slowly through normal operation, do not attempt to augment that heating by any artificial means. Temperature and performance will slowly stabalize over the first 24 - 48 hours of operation and thereafter be at their sonic best. Be aware however that if you unplug or otherwise remove power from the unit that the warm up period starts afresh. Please give this product at least 24 hours initial warm up time before attempting any critical listening. A typical current draw for this product is 25 watts or less; the XP- 20’s are designed to be powered up 100% of the time." |

Correct when new out of box you will probably hate it. I did ! Leave it plugged into the wall. turn on the auto dimmer great feature. Play music here and there five days later presto magic!! Great Pre with great options and sounds good all the time because it's on all the time. The auto dimmer lets you think that it's off when your not using it too! Works for me! |
