There hasn't been an Ayre dealer in Colorado for about two years now.

The closest is in New Mexico.

No Ayre dealer in SC. Must drive 5 hours to a very well stocked and knowlegable retailer in Atlanta. Such is the path we are on in the decline of brick and mortar audio store age.

Hi Folks, since I am ordering some fuse I thought I must as well change all of them including the Ref5SE. Anyone know what is the fuse rating for 240V Ref5SE??

I am using the above combination and the synergy is outstanding. This is a combo worth hearing.

I was wondering if anyone has tried pairing the REF 5 SE with an amplifier with input impedance of 10K ohms? And what was the experience like?

Will this in anyway damage or stress the preamp?

Sajid...you won't damage the preamp in any way. It may just not work optimally from a sonic representation. Although it might do as well. You just have to try it.

BillK - your experience with adding a preamp to the chain mirror my own. If a source component has an analogue output stage capable of driving a power amp (there are not many) then there is nothing to be gained from a preamp besides filtering and coloration, neither of which bring you closer to the music.

I have no direct experience, but the editor of the Toneaudio magazine reports excellent results using the REF 5SE with a 2kohm balanced input impedance amplifier - the Burmester 911 mk3 .

Correct - which is why I find this test to be such a wonderful way of testing preamps; you can instantly hear what the insertion losses/damage of the component at hand are and judge whether they're offensive to you or not.
