Toga,

As a Magico Q owner, I would, in theory, agree that you should pursue a warrantee remedy. If gaskets started to show on my speaker, Magico would certainly hear from me. At these prices, there should be nothing less than complete owner satisfaction! But, on the other hand, I would also understand your reluctance to pursue shipment back to the factory over such long distances and possibly having to go without your speaker for a significant period of time, over a cosmetic problem. Why not renew your membership and share some pictures? Ted.

If it's under warranty than shipping should be on Magico round trip and dealer should take card of packing and pick up. Dealer should also be on the hook to provide suitable loaner while speaker is being serviced if it cannot be fixed locally, which is highly unlikely. For $185k in the US (I am sure it's a lot more in Asia where Toga lives...I believe Malaysia but could be wrong), all of the above should be guaranteed by Magico. At that price point, anything less would be piss poor service. Just my 2c.

I am curious as to why would you take these issues publicly before you bother to contact your dealer or Magico?

Hi all, I will make it clear one by one.
1. I am sure totally sick to see this happen, but still, as long as the speakers sound the same as before , it is not the end of the world.

2. I witnessed the delivery process, the installation by myself and I know how trouble some it will be to have them moved again, let alone to ship back to US. Customs clearance could be some issue too. big issue for something like Q7.

3. My dealer usually give good service I don't worried.

4. My question is, once repaired. will it happen again next summer ? I just saw these gasket this summer, I believe the heat make it happen. during daytime with A/C off the room was pretty warm at 92F.

5. While I own Q3, I sent email directly to Magico to ask about the effect of warm room temperature to the speakers rubber parts, but they did not reply me, so now it seems I know the answer already.

6. I purchase these Q7 new, and I never know the warranty term, didn't ask it, but could be about a year. will update once I call dealer. I bet the answer will be " don't worry about that, it's not a serious problem" haha.

7. the reason I let you know this before bother to contact dealer is simple. when I first noticed it I had iPad on my hand while it was a night of a weekend, So there was no way to contact dealer,
but a post on AA can be done instantly. And even for now it is still morning of Monday I will have to wait for 3 hours more before I can call them.

Toga.

TOGA...if it's new then you definitely have warranty coverage. I checked on Goodwins Highend website and they have the product manuals for the Q3 and Q5 but not Q7, and for both of those speakers, the warranty coverage is 5 years. I am assuming the Q7 should be the same (it better be for that kind of money). So if your dealer comes to you and tells you "its no big deal," tell him you are never going to buy anoher component from him again. And here's why. Magicos are "sealed enclosure" speakers (meaning no ports). And they are tuned as such. If the appearance of a gasket implies that there is even the tiniest of openings in the seal between two side panels or anywhere in the enclosure of the speaker, then there is the possibility that it is no longer a "sealed" enclosure. You may not hear any appreciable difference now but what if another gasket appears on the same side or on other other side of the speaker? You should not be satisfied with anything less than a full resolution of this matter on the part of your dealer. You did not pay chump change for this speaker. They are under warranty. And it's their responsibility to get it resolved. You can obviously decide to do whatever you deem appropriate but if I were in your shoes, I would want it resolved. I know it's a huge speaker and it weighs a ton and it's a long way to ship and may be gone for a while and those are all your dealers problems now I have given you my best advice and I will now bow out. Good luck.

I'm with Cyril... Not to mention that resale value is adversely affected until fixed, or replaced.

Hi,
I am in contact with dealer, today they will come to investigate and take photo.
Ok. there has been some discussion about sealed box speakers here before, about
are they 100% air tight or not, some said so, some argued.
But a point to make here is. If this is a sign of sealant aging on my 1 year old Q7,
visible or not, other Magico speakers out there were sealed with the same sealant, so
owners please take caution too.
Thanks everybody.

Toga

What would be the "lowest" temperature with A/C on?

In any case, the dealer/Magico should fix the problem to your satisfaction.
