Default McIntosh MPC1500 or Shunyata Hydra Talos?

Hey there,

I am considering purchasing a power conditionner for my system. Priced about the same (on used market), I have the opportunity to choose either the McIntosh MPC1500 or Shunyata Hydra Talos. The reason I would prefer the MPC1500 over the Talos because it would blend with all other McIntosh gear but I don't know about the real world performance.

As per many reviews online and user feedback, I am more confident about the performance of the Talos to make a real audible gain. All my power cables are Shunyata CX and soon I will install the Shunyata SR-Z1 outlet.

So, priced the same which one you would choose, and why?

Thanks!

Serge

IMO Shunyata for synergy with your power cords. They use the same copper wire internally on the Talos as they do for their PCs. I demoed the Hydra AV recently, and am seriously considering the Talos myself.

MPC 1500 does blend well with your Mc gear

image-2999486754.jpg

I like it a lot so I bought 2 of them.

No experience with other products.

I know Transparent has a product that you can plug your amp to it but not the MPC 1500

MPC 1500 weight as much as MC 452, it's beefy.

good luck with your purchase.

Chris

I don't plan to plug my amplifier in neither of the units. I know that most folks do not recommend this because of the power draw. I will only plug my pre-amp, CD and TT.

Serge, if that's the case then I would go for MPC1500!

Shunyata. Every piece of Shunyata gear I have used, from a $100 Venom, to a Ztron Anaconda powering a Triton has made an audible, positive improvement.

Personally, I would buy neither and keep an eye open for a Torus or Bryston BIT. They have a reputation for being better than anything else out there.
