Jérôme.......You don't have to be wearing the Grado's to be breaking them in. Just plug them into the C1000 and let the lay on the floor. The hours will be put on them without any trouble.

I read about the reduced bass with large cups, but may not apply to your model.

Dan makes a good point, mon ami....when I was last at my local dealer, they were burning a pair of the Grado RS1s on a Nagra preamp that had a headphone amp...they were just leaving the CD player on repeat with the headphones plugged in for days on end. When I heard them, they were just out of the box, and I wasn't overwhelmed because the Nagra didn't have enough gain, and the 'phones were not run in yet. BTW, they had the large cups on them, and I found they didn't fit as well as the flat foam pads on my head.

I love Grado. I used to have the 325i and liked them a lot. Here's my current headphone station at the office:

How's the headphone out of McIntosh components?

In case you didn't know. Grado makes a case for the UK market. I just ordered one for my RS1i.

No I did not know that Mike. Only for UK ?
Is it on the Grado web site ?

OK I did the test on the C1000.
2 conclusions : the regular cushions give a "loudness" kind of sound co;pared to the large pads, the G cushions.
If you take the time to adjust the G perfectly ( a small change on your head of 2 mm of the arch change a lot the sound ) and adjust the level ( I got the same level at 47 for the G cushions of the one I got at 36 for the small pads ), then the G cushions give a more open sound, like the "AIR" setting on the Room Perfect voicing filter : more air between the instruments, a larger "stereo" scene. The bass seems to lower only because of the more extended treble imho. It is still here, but less "invasive" for sure.
Some will prefer the small cushions sound especially if you're into big bass, and some will prefer the G cushions depending on each's preferences.
The comfort factor is very important for me so I will keep the large pads most of the time.
Will report any significant differences when they will be fully broken in.

I ordered two. One for my RS1i and a future Gardo, perhaps the 325i. Should be here in a few weeks.

How's the BiG cushions today? I am debating if I need this or just get the RS80i.
