Windom - sounds fine, tried it out on a test reference, Lorde - album Pure Heroin.
First 3 tracks are special with lovely atmosphere, singing and low bass notes (super low on track 3 Royals).
But it’s track 4 - RIBS that seems to capture the pre release vibe -> the opening swirling of music left to right and all around was simply amazing as it hadn’t previously drawn such attention I lifted my head up with amazement, then the lady singers voice nuance improvement, tiny bit more space between notes, meaning a quieter background.

Good stuff Ted Smith and PSA team

I get the feeling that Ted has just found time to optimize the code. And each time there were suggestions on how these improvements sound being evaluated by a team that Paul has assembled including Bascom and the late Arnie Nudell. I think that’s what allowed the improvements to keep astounding us. From what I understand, Ted compiles the code with a few different variations - and these are then evaluated from listening.

With Windom, it was from trying some new algorithms on the new 2 box DAC that Ted found a way to implement in the older FPGA.

One of the perks of my job is meeting new guys to the hobby. Today a high school kid was driven to my shop by his mum and he’s saving for his real stereo system. He’s running some vintage make shift gear from 15-20 years ago and I’m really amazed at his enthusiasm. He said he’d been reading about the DirectStream which is part of his dream system and his mum said he’d been pestering her to bring to my store. And she finally relented.

I offered him to hear the DirectStream upgrade in person. Started him off with a song he was familiar with on Snowmass, then inserted the SD card to switch to Windom. The look in his eyes was priceless.

I am a totally surprised how much I am enjoying Windom. The separation in instruments is wonderful. More detail to the notes. I have been thru many updates on the DSD. Some betters than others. For Snowmass, which had several versions within it, with 3.0.6 being the last, I preferred the 1st version of Snowmass 3.0.0 which to me was the best to date until Windom. Very good job by Ted.

I've been listening as much as possible for the last few days, alternating between the Windom PS DSD and my wonderful new VPI HW-40. This 'table is absolutely sensational and the updated DAC is really darn close! I cannot get over how the digital artifacts are just gone.

One issue, the output level seems to be fairly low. Anyone else notice this?

Yes, but I adjusted that variable with the little output slider. It seemed to automatically reset to a low volume on install, but was fixed with that and all is well.

With Windom, my system has never sounded better. And, that is all that matters to my ears.

Been listening to Windom for about an hour. Improved separation, detail, and soundstage. So far it’s not fatiguing. Ted you are amazing.
