I joined the discussion last fall when I acquired my Inspire “Fire Bottle” SE Stereo Tube Amplifier HO. My posts begin with 1118, and you'll see that I think that my Inspire amp is a great match for my Klipsch RF-7 II. I prefer 6L6GC with my Klipsch vs. KT88. If your amp was designed for KT66, then I'd imagine the 6L6GC would be OK - but I'm not an expert. |

Glad to see other Klipsch lovers here. If I had more room I would have a set of Lascalas or even Khorns. Paul Klipsch was a firm believer that you only really needed a few watts and his speaker designs prove that out.

I have an LP-27a incoming. I am pretty excited about it. I will likely have to cut some other gear loose, but that's okay too.

When I purchased the Fire Bottle KT66 it was a package deal with the LP-27a preamp and the seller would not split it up. Lucky for me another buyer just wanted the preamp so we worked it out. He is delighted with his new preamp also.
I run my systems with Carver C11 preamps, one has the BillD mods to it. Lots of input/output options and a great MM/MC phono stage. It's a straight wire with gain, no coloration at all and extremely quiet. BillWojo |

My experience with the Inspire KT-88 SET and the LP-27a has been excellent. One made for the other, with synergies galore! The preamp provides a transparent boost in body, SPL and dynamics to an already excellent sounding SET. You won't regret it.

Went to a town wide yard sale today and came home with a bag full of vintage tubes for 10 bucks. A half dozen 6V6GT's, a complete tube pull from a Dynaco amp and preamp (4 EL34 tubes, a fist full of Telefunkins and a Mullard 5AR4) and a pile of other 12AX7 and the like. Ran everything from the Dynaco amp and preamp on my tube tester and they look great. Currently running some vintage Mullard EL34's in my Fire Bottle amp and it sure sounds sweet. Need to pick up a 5Y3 rectifier tube so I can try some of the vintage 6V6 tubes.
Not everything in the bag was good stuff, a pile of compactrons and other tv tubes that I'll have my expert tube buddy look through before I toss them. Overall a great score. BillWojo |

Bill you can use a 5U4G with the 6V6GT tubes, but need a 5Y3 for the vintage 6V6.

Thanks nhparrot, I'm running the 5U4G with the EL34 tubes so it's a simple swap. I'll try that tonight. I have a nice set of RCA 6V6GT tubes that tested strong from yesterdays haul.
