This is indeed your last speaker; you will never want to upgrade anymore.

Half joking, I said to my better half yesterday: I think we could just fit in an X-treme system in here.
She said: I wouldn't mind, they are true pieces of art in every way possible.

Now I just need to find 400,000€ + some money for decent cables...
Don’t forget a room large enough to do them justice. Omni directional much like dipolar speakers need room to breathe to sound best and positioned well away from any nearby wall.

Wonderful review, Jacques, thank you. I’ve always been a fan of this type of Omni speaker. I still have a pair of Ohm F’s. I’ve heard the MBL 101E and was very impressed. I can’t imagine what their reference system sounds like. Must be spectacular!

Excellent review. Thank you for posting. I heard the big MBL at a couple of audio shows and they are indeed impressive. The best speakers I have ever heard.

That was a wonderful post, thank you.

I wonder why more companies don’t explore omnidirectional speakers. There are virtually an unlimited number of point source speaker manufacturers at all price points, a handful of dipole speaker companies, a few hybrids and a few line source models but high end omnidirectional speakers are currently made by only 2 German companies (as far as I know).
There have been omnidirectional manufacturers in the past including Mirage, Harman Kardon, Pioneer and many others. None of these companies continued with this type of speaker technology. It seems the limitations of an omnidirectional speaker may outweigh the benefits.

I wonder if those “limitations of an omnidirectional speaker” apply to all speakers of that type or to the companies that you listed that tried to build them and did not succeed.

I can tell you that even if the technology is flawed or limited, I still would not hesitate purchasing those speakers if I had the $$$.

This stereophile review back in the day was pretty good at describing the pro's and con's of MBL Radialstrahler Omni-directional speakers. https://www.stereophile.com/content/...ii-loudspeaker

The BIG MBLs are nothing short of sensational. I'd own a pair in a sec, could I afford them.

Very interesting read.

4 years in a row the big MBL system is the best of show to my ears in Munich. I am almost certain it will be the same this year.
