Turntable Lamp
I'm looking for a small, bright lamp to illuminate my turntable to facilitate changing records in the evening. Any recommendations? Thanks for your help, Mike.

Would a candle do it?

As someone recently mentioned where they bought a similar unit -- yep, bought it at Ikea.
Flexible neck & on/off switch on the cord. Best sir, Bob

I use this one from Ikea, $30. It clamps perfectly to a shelf, adjusts easily, and plenty bright.

Turntable Lamp
I have a Littlelite on each of my turntables. They work very well, can switch from white to red (for lights-out listening), and can be attached with clamps, or have a weighed base, or just Velcro.

I've tried a variety of turntable lights including, like Tony's, a Little Light from way back. It's an incandescent, not very high wattage so a bit too low in strength.
I put the Little Light there just to give some balance to that picture. An early Artimide LED (silver, left side) for general overhead lighting (sorry for the poor photo.) Lowering it to look at a record usually tends to yield too much glare. So it stays up high and is used sporadically. In the end the most useful turntable lighting for me are two small variable output LED flashlights. These are rechargeable, can go up to 600 lumens which is quite bright, and have a flat bottom. One stays in place beneath the cartridge where I use it and an adjustable magnifying loupe on a stand to examine the stylus before and after every record. The light and loupe are very helpful and simple to use. (Both are available on Amazon - I can dig up links if you need them.) The second LED flashlight is identical to the other. I use it to examine the record itself when I first put it on the platter to see if it needs a brushing. You'd be surprised how much dirt and other nits are seen when holding it at something a bit less than a 45-degree angle. I could use just one flashlight but having one stay in place is convenient and reduces hand movement beneath the cartridge. |
