Ayre KX-R in the house !
My friends,
After many thinkings, i pulled the trigger on a used preamp... the KX-R I must confess you that I had seriousness doubts as for my capability to hear some differences between my MX150 and another preamp (big discussion on the topic with Jérôme ). The choice was on 3 second-hand preamps: the ref5se, the kx-r and a Burmester 808. Because not having the possibility to listen to one of it only in my area, many thanks to Laurent, Serge, Rocco, Joe, and Jérôme with their advices who helped me in my decision. This last must be versatile to adapt to other amplifiers that my 1201 (I have a weak for the future stereo block of Dan Of Agostino ), fast, just and musical. Monitoring to very low level must also be perfect...and it must be gorgeous ! As I am very superstitious, I created this post only after having received the preamp... 2 days ago ! Useless to tell to you at what point the Kx-r is gorgeous...and damn good, but you already knew that ! I must recognize that the MX150 (that I love) doesn't play in the same league (Jérôme, you were right, i can hear the difference !). What can i say to describe this masterpiece : a total ability to retranscribe the musical emotion, awsome basses, an outstanding dynamic at low level, an hypnotic 3D effect etc... Happy to be a new Ayre's member ...And of course, many pics to follow my friends Frank |

Congrats Frank!
Welcome to the Ayre family! The KX-R preamp is without a doubt a world-beater, and wait to you get to pair it up with the D.D. Momentum (monoblock or stereo) as you most definitely will not be disappointed - it's a heck of a combo! My Sasha/KX-R/Momentum monoblocks combo are definite keepers, but the only other preamp that I might be willing to consider would be Dan's forthcoming preamp (with tone controls). But somehow, unless Dan's preamp pulls off a minor miracle, I have a feeling that my KX-R will be staying put in my system! Philip |
