Default Plug-n-Play Vinyl Solutions...

This news article from The Audio Beat highlights a new venture called Vinyl Revolution (www.vinyl-revolution.com) which refurbishes and updates direct-drive tables from the 70s and 80s. Here is the link to the news article: The Audio Beat - Get Your Classic Direct-Drive Turntables Here; Vinyl Revolution

I guess the founder of this venture (Richard Colburn) is also a contributing writer to Tone Audio, so Jeff probably knows the gentleman and what he is doing with these tables.

Yes, Richard writes about Jazz and Blues for us and actually lives in my neighborhood now... When we first met years ago, he was working for KEF.

It's pretty much like the article says, he finds the best examples of classic direct drive tables, (and has a fairly large inventory of donor tables as well) cleans them up from head to toe, both physically and electrically.

Where possible, he usually will snip the cheapo tonearm cable, and add some Cardas jacks so that you can use a better interconnect, applies damping to the platter and plinth and installs a decent 200-400 cartridge, so you are ready to roll. He's also found some great mats that he's done some pretty exhaustive comparisons on to see which offer the best performance with a specific model.

I did most of the photos for his site and have listened to most of the tables. Everything I've heard has been a winner. Richard is a very meticulous guy (Drives the cleanest E46 M3 I've ever seen) and has really done a great job on these tables.

If you are looking to get back into vinyl on a modest budget and would like something a little more off the beaten path than your basic Rega P3/Music Hall/Project, I'd suggest giving him a call.

It's kind of like buying a nicely restored E30 BMW, than say a new Mazda 3....

This is great news for all vinyl lovers and especially those, like me, that love the old DD TT's.

Very Nice. I once had a Denon DP-45 and would love to have it back. If I ever run across one perhaps a restoration would be in order.
