Your choice as to passive or the active / external crossover, but going with the passive allows you some $$ allocation perhaps for some acoustical treatments that could hopefully have a WAF.

Hector.......I think you could rock that room with a pair of Bryston's new Model T speakers. With your budget you can even afford one of the fancy veneers Bryston offers for them. The Model T's have gotten rave reviews and owners are reporting excellent performance.

I have been under the impression that Mcintosh speakers of late are particularly bright. This has deterred me from considering them. Maybe someone has a different opinion?

Go for the Revel F-208. My friend also had a similar budget as yours and just purchased the F-208. At $5K, these speakers punch way above their price point and they look beautiful in walnut. They are a tremendous value. I was as impressed as heck with them when he auditioned them. You could take the other $5k and put it towards something else.

Hector, so sorry to hear about your blown speakers. Your system can definitely handle any speakers. Since you don't have anywhere locally and need to have any large speakers shipped make sure anyone you purchase them from ships them on pallets. Any other way invites damage. Trust me, I learned the hard way years ago.

Agree on the pallets but you won't have to worry about that if you call Ivan. Everything will be done right.
