As much as you would like to think we are all "greasing the palms of the audio industry," to not describe a product as accurately as possible doesn't help you, me or the mfr.

The Lamm amps are a great example. I've always found the Lamm stuff to be way too dark for my taste, yet when I've heard them with Wilson Sophias or Sashas, the sound has always been fantastic.

It's never an easy conclusion to draw.

Ultimately the best hifi review will lead you to a product demo so you can draw your own conclusion in your own system. Nothing more.
Jeff,
Interesting views.
I find Wilson speakers a bit too bright for me. You describe a dark tendancy for Lamm amps : now I'm not surprised about their synergy with Wilson speakers.
Thanks !
You're a very valuable source of information here !

I agree; I recently heard Sashas with Ayre amps and it was less than pleasant on the high end; a change to an Audio Research cured that.

Totally agree with the Ayre and Wilson pairing, way too bright.

For those that find the Lamm hybrids dark in their systems, a hex driver and a pair of Siemens CCas or better yet Telefunken red tips will change all that without making the amps edgy. In my system a pair of Valvo tubes got me to Goldilocks territory.
