I was hearing some pops when I tried playing some DSD 128 files. Unfortunately. The pops are still happening after the firmware update...

Are you hearing pops thru USB or Ethernet connection, if possible try ethernet if your pops are over usb and vise versa.

Hi All,
It's likely the update isn't happening automatically. We switched our website to a new site, and apparently something in the way it is coded doesn't work well with the Converse module. To get the new firmware until we get things updated to work together, please visit https://www.ayre.com/support/ and click the Firmware button. That should take you to the page that contains the download link for revision J of the QX-5 firmware. In other news, our engineer has about cracked the code with HDCD and we'll likely have a release reenabling HDCD detection once it is done. Ideally the automatic updating will be back online by then. Sorry for the confusion...we were rather surprised a new website suddenly breaks querying for a file. If you have any other problems, I'll check this thread from time to time, but you can also call us at any time for more immediate assistance. gtl, if you have revision J on your unit and still having issues with USB, please let me know so I can pass that on.

The pops are only happening for DSD128 files. I tried using a thumbdrive with the ethernet input. Unfortunately it seems like it only supports up to DSD64.

Hi Ryan, I am still having popping issues with DSD128. All other formats are working fine. |

Its the only reason I am gonna get a high end USB cable rather than a AES cable. I want to be able to listen to DSD128 which the AES input doesn't support. Hope the next firmware revision comes out soon and resolves this issue! |

Hi gtl,
Talked with the engineers just to make sure I wasn't speaking out of turn. There was once a high-rate issue with the QX-5 that was particularly noticeable with DSD files, but that had been corrected some time ago. If you're still experiencing issues and the firmware on your unit is indicating H, give us a call and I'll get you in touch with one of our engineers. He may need to get more information to see if we can replicate it here.

Hi Ryan,
This week I became the happy owner of a QX-5! It's up and running, I'm using the ethernet input with Roon. But I've run into an update issue, I hope you can help me out. This particular unit needed software updates. I've managed the general firmware update, that went smooth enough. It's on J now. Problem is that the ethernet module won't pick up the newest update. It's an automated proces, I know, but there's no sign of any updating going on, or an update being offered. The firmware is still stuck at 03.00.03, it should be 03.05.15. What can I do or try to get the update proces going? Thanks! Marc Last edited by bluebeat; 08-30-2018 at 10:50 AM. |

Likewise, on Ayre Qx5 firmware page, “When playing specific high rate files, the QX-5 briefly indicates that HDCD codes are detected and begins decoding. This causes audible changes in track level.” I am not sure if the issue I am facing is related to this. |
