Tannoy Prestige Super Tweeter
Looks like a fine addition.
ST200 Super Tweeter Always an innovator where quality sound reproduction is concerned, Tannoy has continued this tradition by being at the forefront of the development of WideBand™ technology. All Prestige models except Autograph Mini are compatible with Tannoy’s SuperTweeter™ designs, providing the opportunity to extend high-frequency response to above 50 kHz, thereby providing all of the bandwidth required for today’s wide bandwidth digital recording formats. In fact the SuperTweeter™ only starts working at a point that is close to what is generally considered the limit of the audible frequency band for most adults. The Dual Concentric™ in the main loudspeaker, still working to its full frequency specifications, continues to provide the heart of the musical information as a coherent point source. However, the extreme high frequencies are then resolved by the SuperTweeter™ to provide incredible, wide bandwidth detail and enlivening the performance by increasing the tonal accuracy of individual instruments for more natural and true to life music reproduction. By extending the high frequency capability of the complete loudspeaker system out to beyond 50kHz, this in turn corrects the time and phase response at the upper end of audibility. This delivers enhanced accuracy and spaciousness, improved clarity within the essential mid band area and even an enhancement of the definition and impact of low frequencies. Benefits are heard clearly with any source material, regardless of bandwidth, therefore ensuring that a Tannoy SuperTweeter™ is an essential accessory. The oiled American Walnut casing of the ST200 is specifically designed to partner the Prestige range of Dual Concentric™ loudspeaker designs. From Stirling SE right through to the iconic Westminster Royal SE, this SuperTweeter has adjustment optimisation, appearance, style, construction and performance to greatly improve the overall listening experience. A high stiffness titanium dome minimises the effects of dome break-up and extend frequency response, while a copper clad aluminium voice coil on aluminium former ensures high power handling. A neodymium magnet system also extends frequency response by minimising eddy current losses in voice coil and a driver magnet system earthing avoids interference and information masking caused by radio interference. Gold plated terminals, adjustment screws and circuit board are used for high signal transparency. Radio Frequency quality inductors in crossover for excellent high frequency characteristics and non-inductive planar thick film resistors on ceramic substrates, avoid losses associated with wire wound types. High quality polycarbonate film capacitors have been selected for high frequency use. The unique Tannoy Performance Platform™, gives stable support and accurate variable adjustment. Not only are they designed to visually blend in with all types of speakers, but they also provide an instant acoustic upgrade that is unavailable in any other way. A very nice addition when I was running my Westminster and Royals back in the days..
Better top extension obviously, but it's the added ambience that's addicting. Wish the 'old' was as beautiful as this newer one though! |

I am not doubting that is a good tweeter, BUT Regarding those claims of time and phase, I am not drinking the Kool Aid. In short, it's BS. I have to say that the phase of the waves propagated at super tweeter frequencies, say about 10,000 or 20,000 Hz makes no difference whatsoever. The wavelength is 1 inch at 10 kHz and half an inch at 20 kHz. Move your head half that amount, only 1/2 to 1/4 inch and you're 180 degrees out of phase at those frequencies, not to mention the wave interaction with the tweeter in the main speaker. The room is ablaze with comb filtering at those frequencies and you would have to literally measure your distances from all the speaker drivers and literally lock you head in a vice to even measure the differences at those frequencies and you still would't be able to hear it. You might if you were a bat. If you COULD, you WOULD LITERALLY HAVE TO lock your head in a vice to listen to the speakers to observe their claims. |
