I've run some quick tests and I think the sound quality problem is still there.
However, Build 274 does introduce a Target Volume Level feature, where you can adjust the amount of overall volume drop you get when using Volume Leveling. Range is -15db to -25db. My quick tests, posted on the Roon forum, show that the -25 db reduction is noticably worse than -15 db. Implying that Roon's volume leveling control gets worse with the amount of reduction. With Roon's 64 bit DSP, it's not meant to do this by design, but that's what I'm hearing. At all other times, I always set my source to be max volume and do all my volume adjustments on my DAVE DAC - so I don't know or care if this issue is a general one with the various Roon volume control options |

Before using roon I would always use 90% source volume to allow for headroom/clipping and adjust volume in the analog domain so as not to lose resolution. With roon I use maximum output but set -2 to -3dB in the DSP Headroom setting. I still adjust volume in the analog domain. This sounds the best to my ears.
