Still, I found two inexpensive ($5 ea.) 50 Ohm BNC cables made with RG-58U coaxial cable, in a local electronics supply store. After fumbling around with button pushing coupled with several choice swear words (especially RTFM), the P-02 & D-02 finally sync'd up and I sat back to listen. I used two special ECM light jazz CDs that I find are very well recorded with a mixture of vocals and instrumentals.

I sat back and listened and had a holy ---- moment! I kid you not!! There was more 'life' in these two CDs than I'd heard before. Transients were more distinct, the background seemed to get darker and the whole listening experience was somewhat overwhelming.

If you own a G-01 Clock and you have equipment with 50 Ohm BNC connectors, do yourself a favor and try 10MHz OUT even if it means using inexpensive 50 Ohm cables. I'm willing to venture you won't want to go back to your original settings!!

Ken
Ken, have you tried the 75ohm Valhalla connectors on the 10M tap yet? I think you'll like your results. Ted.

Default Update 4

I swapped out the $5 50 Ohm BNC cables (made with generic RG-58U coaxial cable) for the Valhalla v2 75 Ohm BNC cables (1.25m length). Son of Gun! As silly as it seems, there's an audible improvement. One spooky thing is I have to slightly increase the volume setting on my C1000C unit. It's as though the background is even quieter/darker than with previous settings and I need to tweak the loudness to compensate.

Some details of my setup: the P-02 sits on StillPoint Ultra 6s which rest on a an HRS S3 Isolation Base (the one with the granite shelf). The shelving unit is a Quadraspire Bamboo unit. The G-01 sits on the middle shelf and the D-02 sits on the bottom shelf: both units rest on StillPoint Ultra SSs. The P-02 is connected to the D-02 using two Valhalla v2 110 Ohm XLR AES/EBU digital cables. The D-02 analog output connects to the C1000T unit using Valhalla v2 XLR analog cables.

The only gripe I have with the Esoteric units is their top plates ring like a bell when tapped, so I place HRS Damping Plates on top to deaden the sound. Finally, I placed a StillPoints LPI right above the centerline of the P-02 transport.

My system is powered by Shunyata throughout (Triton/Typhon/DPC-6 all with Sigma Digital/Analog/HC cables were appropriate).

I think I can safely say I've finally reached the limit on improving my CD/SACD playback setup (although it is foolish to never say never to improvements).

Ken

Ken... good read, I'm waiting on my SMA male/male WW Platinum Starlight 6" cable. I'm sure my experience will mirror yours; I'll take pics and post my experience as well.

Ditto, on the HRS damping plates; are you using the heavier DPX plates? They are much better than the standard plates; I use 2 of them.

Ken... did you use SMA>BNC adapters to enable use your BNC coax?

Default Update 5

Damping Plates: yes I use the thick (1.25") HRS Damping Plates with two 4.5" x 14.5" plates running front to back and a 4.5" x 9.5" plate in the center running front to back. The shorter plate leaves enough space for the Stillpoints LPI which is centered above the P-02 transport. You really should try the LPI above the center of your K-01x transport. I figure it kills any remaining vibration while the disc is spinning.

One other tip: the first thing I did when I got my P-02/D-02/G-01 units was to remove the stock Esoteric feet and put them back in the box. Why have them dangling in space while suspending the units on Stillpoints or HRS Nimbus units or other after-market support devices?

The Valhalla v2 BNC cables are a true 75 Ohm design. Nordost uses Neutrik 75 Ohm BNC male connectors with these digital cables. These Neutrik BNC connectors connect properly with the 50 Ohm BNCs on the G-01/P-02/D-02.

I've tried Furutech, Sine, Oyaide and Cardas among others in the futile attempt to get quality 50 Ohm Digital cables with BNC connectors. It seems 50 Ohm digital cables (RG-58U) are for telecommunication while 75 Ohm digital cables (RG-59U) are for audio/video. Even Esoteric/Mexcel doesn't make a 50 Ohm digital cable anymore and yet they insist on using this impedance for their products with the 10MHz BNC connectors.

Finally: according to the G-01 brochure, the 75 Ohm Clock Out is a Rectangular Wave:TTL level/75 Ohm while the 10MHz Out is a Sine Wave: 0.5+/-0.1Vrms 50 Ohm. Looks like two different types of signals to me.

Ken... sorry, I misunderstood; I thought you were referring to the cable inside the G01 (Rubidium clock > board)

Just stumbled upon this.

There are 75ohm to 50ohm adapters available in the market. Bought a few but never did get round to trying them out. Returned the G01 to my dealer without even trying it ! Now using the Vivaldi clock to feed the Esoteric.

I still have the Antelope & the SRS 10m clocks. Maybe time to check it out.

Joeling,
I'm just using the 75ohm cable without an adapter on the 50ohm 10MHz tap. Is this a problem? It seems to work well! Ted.

PS. Interested to see which super front end you choose!!

I just bought one of these, and will try it.

Ivan, Were you able to find a good quality adapter? Nothing worse than a cheap cheater on a good cable! Have you been using your 75 ohm without an adapter as well? It does work, but maybe some sound is being left on the table?? Are you using the !0MHz tap only, or have you tried the 24MHz master clock mode signal?Ted.
